Built different. On purpose.

We think the entryway deserves the same furniture you'd put in any other room you're proud of.

Most people don't get that. They get a coat rack from a big-box store and a bench that's held together with staples and hope.

The Wooden Nest started because of a pet peeve. The furniture meant to anchor the busiest room in the house was almost always the cheapest thing in it. Particleboard dressed up to look like oak. Hooks that pulled loose by spring. Benches that rocked the second you sat down. We figured families were tired of replacing the same junk every couple of years, so we started building the version that doesn't need replacing.

Here's how an order goes. You tell us about your space: the wall, the traffic, the chaos, the look you're after. We pull the best boards from our lumber, cut them to your measurements, and build the piece to last. Then comes the part that takes the longest: sanding, painting or staining, and finishing each piece until it feels right. By the time it leaves the shop, it's been touched by human hands at every step.

We're in Tennessee, which is a good place to make furniture: the woodworking tradition here runs deep, and so does the lumber. Our shop is small, and we keep it that way on purpose. We only take a limited number of orders each month so that nothing gets rushed and nothing leaves before it's ready.

Our Workshop

This is where the boards become furniture: rough-cut, joined, sanded, and finished by hand, one piece at a time.

A finished built-in mudroom

Our Tennessee workshop, where every piece is built by hand from start to finish.

Finished pieces

Before anything ships, we photograph it, look it over, and give it a final once-over to make sure it's right.
